Nvidia and OpenAI Plan Major Investment in UK AI Infrastructure
Nvidia and OpenAI Plan Major Investment in UK AI Infrastructure
13 tháng 9 2025
(Global Economic News) – Two U.S. tech giants, Nvidia and OpenAI, are in talks to participate in a large-scale investment aimed at strengthening the United Kingdom’s artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
According to sources cited by CNBC, the deal centers on the development of new data centers, with a potential value reaching billions of dollars. Alongside Nvidia and OpenAI, cloud computing company Nscale is also involved in the discussions. However, the agreement has not yet been finalized and is expected to be announced during U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming state visit to the UK.
Nvidia and Nscale declined to comment when contacted by CNBC, while OpenAI also refrained from making any statements. The UK government similarly did not respond to requests regarding this investment plan.
The Rise of “Sovereign AI”
Governments worldwide are racing to attract major U.S. AI firms as part of their efforts to build independent technological ecosystems. The concept of “sovereign AI” – ensuring domestic control over data processing and AI infrastructure – has become a strategic priority to reduce reliance on foreign technology.
Nvidia Sees the UK as a Strategic Destination
Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, is expected to accompany President Trump on his state visit to Britain. Earlier this year, Huang described the UK as an “incredible place to invest” and signaled his company’s commitment to expanding operations in the country. “The UK is in a Goldilocks circumstance – just right for investment and growth,” he remarked during a panel with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
If completed, the planned investment from Nvidia and OpenAI would not only reinforce the UK’s leadership in AI within Europe but also mark a significant step in the intensifying global competition over artificial intelligence technologies.
Key Takeaways for Investors
The potential multi-billion-dollar investment by Nvidia and OpenAI highlights the UK’s growing importance as a strategic hub for advanced technology. Still, investors should take note of several important factors:
Deal Uncertainty: Although discussions are ongoing, no agreement has been finalized. Investors should closely monitor official announcements in the coming week.
Policy Risks: Regulatory changes in both the U.S. and UK concerning data and security could impact the pace and scope of the investment.
Global Competition: Many other countries are also pushing for “sovereign AI,” which could intensify competition for capital, talent, and technology.
Long-Term Opportunities: If realized, the deal could position the UK as Europe’s leading AI hub, opening major opportunities for both technology and financial investors.
