A Billion-Dollar International Hospital in Gia Lai: “Shark” Nguyen Thanh Viet Joins Forces with a Gen Z CEO

Article content:

A large-scale healthcare project has been unveiled, attracting significant public attention not only due to its investment capital of over VND 1.33 trillion (approximately USD 55 million), but also because of its high-profile stakeholders: “Shark” Nguyen Thanh Viet – Chairman of Intracom, and Pham Thi Kieu Oanh – a 2001-born CEO representing the new generation of entrepreneurs.

Ambition to Build an International Hospital in Gia Lai

The joint venture between Brain Joint Stock Company and Phuong Dong Medical Complex Co., Ltd. is currently the sole registered investor for the Long Van International Hospital project, according to the bidding results released by the Binh Dinh Department of Planning and Investment on July 7th.

Located in the Long Van New Urban Area (formerly Tran Quang Dieu Ward, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, now under Quy Nhon Bac Ward, Gia Lai Province), the hospital will feature 200 beds with a focus on high-quality services in obstetrics, pediatrics, and oncology. The facility is designed with four 9-storey blocks (A, B, C, D) and carries an estimated investment of more than VND 1.33 trillion.

The project is planned for a 50-year operational term, with an implementation timeline of 60 months from the effective date of the project contract or official recognition of investor status.

An Established Healthcare Brand Teams Up with a Gen Z Startup

The standout name in this partnership is Phuong Dong Medical Complex – a well-established private healthcare company in Vietnam. Founded in 2010, the company has a registered capital of nearly VND 1.353 trillion, with ownership structure as follows:

Intracom holds 91.6% of shares,

Akeso Global Holding Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) holds 0.84%,

Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh – General Director and legal representative – holds 7.56%.

Intracom, founded in 2002 with 100% state capital and privatized in 2006, currently manages over 30 subsidiaries across Vietnam and has expanded to international markets such as Singapore and Japan. Its core areas include renewable energy, environmental solutions, smart agriculture, post-harvest processing, and digitized supply chains. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Viet – widely recognized as “Shark” Viet – is Intracom’s Chairman and CEO.

On the other side, Brain JSC is a newly formed enterprise established in June 2025 in Gia Lai, specializing in hospital operations with a charter capital of VND 280 billion. Its founding team consists of three young female entrepreneurs: Pham Thi Kieu Oanh (40%), Do Thi Thu Thao (30%), and Nguyen Thi Kim Huong (30%). Notably, Ms. Kieu Oanh – born in 2001 – serves as the company’s General Director and legal representative.

Combining Experience and Innovation

The collaboration between a seasoned healthcare provider and an energetic new player reflects a vision to create a next-generation medical facility, combining deep expertise with modern management and innovation.

Backed by Intracom and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Viet – known for his long-term and impactful investments on “Shark Tank Vietnam” – the Long Van International Hospital project is expected to significantly elevate healthcare service quality in Gia Lai and the broader Central Highlands region.

Challenges in Human Resources and Quality Assurance

One of the key challenges for the project will be attracting and retaining high-quality medical professionals while maintaining international standards of care. However, with strong financial backing and a clear strategic direction, the project aims to establish a compelling working environment and a reputation that draws top talent.

Raising Healthcare Standards in the Central Highlands

Gia Lai and the Central Highlands region currently face a shortage of high-quality specialized hospitals, particularly in fields like oncology and maternal-child care. The successful completion of Long Van International Hospital would alleviate the burden on central hospitals, reduce the need for long-distance patient transfers, and improve local access to advanced healthcare.
