In a significant intensification of the ongoing conflict, Russian forces launched a large-scale aerial assault targeting Ukrainian military airfields using Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and long-range attack drones (UAVs). The strikes mark a renewed emphasis on “high-speed preemptive attacks” aimed at crippling Ukraine’s command and logistics infrastructure.
According to a statement released by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the missile and drone strikes conducted over the past 24 hours successfully destroyed key infrastructure at multiple Ukrainian airbases.
The Kinzhal (Dagger) missile, capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 10, is designed to penetrate modern air defense systems, making it one of the most advanced weapons in Russia’s arsenal. This wave of precision strikes demonstrates Moscow’s strategic intent to neutralize Ukraine’s military logistics and air mobility from long range.
In addition to the airstrikes, Russian ground forces reported significant gains across multiple battlefronts. The Ministry of Defense provided detailed casualty and equipment loss figures for the Ukrainian side:
1,160 Ukrainian troops were reported killed in a single day.
Battlegroup North: Eliminated 120 troops and destroyed 4 armored vehicles in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Battlegroup West: Inflicted 225 casualties, destroyed 2 armored vehicles, 19 motor vehicles, and 3 ammunition depots.
Battlegroup Center: Accounted for 385 Ukrainian losses, along with multiple artillery systems and 2 infantry fighting vehicles.
Battlegroup South: Killed 150 troops and destroyed an artillery unit and one armored vehicle.
Battlegroup East and Dnepr: Claimed a combined total of nearly 280 personnel eliminated, along with 3 jamming stations and a logistics warehouse.
Russia’s air, artillery, and drone forces conducted coordinated strikes on more than 140 Ukrainian military and foreign mercenary positions, including command centers, radar installations, logistics hubs, and a drone boat production facility.
The Russian Air Defense also reported the interception of 120 Ukrainian UAVs and the downing of one U.S.-supplied HIMARS rocket in the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Russia claims to have destroyed:
74,580 drones
664 aircraft
24,442 tanks and armored vehicles
And tens of thousands of artillery pieces, MLRS, and specialized military vehicles.
The use of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles in this latest offensive underscores Russia’s reliance on speed, precision, and technological superiority in its current military doctrine. These strikes aim to paralyze Ukraine’s mobility and infrastructure, while also sending a strategic message to NATO and the West about Russia’s expanding long-range strike capabilities.
As the war enters a more complex and destructive phase, the question remains: Will Russia’s high-tech, high-speed strikes redefine the balance on the battlefield?
