G7 Leaders Urge Middle East De-escalation, Blame Iran for Instability and Terror
17 tháng 6 2025
At the 2025 G7 Summit, leaders of the world’s major advanced economies expressed strong support for Israel and called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East, amid ongoing military exchanges between Israel and Iran.
“We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for Israel’s security,” the G7 leaders declared in a joint statement.
Iran Condemned as Source of Regional Instability
The G7 condemned Iran as the primary driver of regional instability and terror, stressing that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon. The joint communiqué urged a peaceful resolution to the Iranian crisis and supported a broader de-escalation across the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.
Trump Skips Day Two of G7 Amid Mideast Tensions
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that President Donald Trump would skip the second day of the summit, citing “ongoing developments in the Middle East” as the reason for his absence.
Key Agenda at the 2025 G7 Summit
The G7 group — consisting of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan — also welcomed leaders from the European Union, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Ukraine, and South Korea. Key topics discussed included:
Middle East tensions, particularly the Israel-Iran conflict
The war in Ukraine and the future of sanctions against Russia
Trump’s tariff policies and concerns over global economic slowdown
Speaking alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump criticized the G7’s 2014 decision to expel Russia from the then-G8, calling it a “mistake” and suggesting there’s no urgency in imposing additional sanctions on Moscow.
China Offers to Mediate, Opposes Israel’s Strikes
In contrast to G7’s stance, China condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran and positioned itself as a potential peace mediator in the Middle East. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Beijing is ready to play a constructive role in calming the situation, following talks with both Israeli and Iranian officials.
