SJC Gold Prices Soar to Record High, Near VND 127 Million per Tael
23 tháng 8 2025
Vietnam’s domestic gold market saw a sharp surge on August 23 as SJC gold bars jumped over VND 1 million per tael, approaching the historic VND 127 million mark.
As of this morning, SJC gold was quoted at VND 125.6 million per tael (buying) and VND 126.6 million (selling), marking an impressive increase of VND 1.2 million compared to the previous session. This represents one of the strongest rallies in recent days.
Price Spread Remains Stable Despite Volatility
Interestingly, the buy-sell spread has remained at around VND 1 million per tael, unlike previous periods of strong fluctuations when the gap often widened to VND 2–3 million.
Gold Jewelry and 9999 Rings Also on the Rise
Not only bullion but also 9999 gold rings and jewelry continued to climb. Gold rings were trading at VND 118.5 million per tael (buying) and VND 121 million (selling), up VND 1 million from yesterday. In just two days, gold rings have gained a total of VND 1.6 million per tael.
This strong upward momentum in domestic prices came as global gold prices surged at the end of the week. At 9:00 AM (Vietnam time), international gold was trading around USD 3,372 per ounce.
Why Are Gold Prices Soaring?
Analysts attribute the sharp rally to market expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates in September. This speculation triggered a significant drop in the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY), which plunged nearly 1%, currently standing at 97.7 points, providing strong support for gold.
However, after conversion at the current exchange rate, global gold prices are equivalent to about VND 107.7 million per tael, which is VND 13.3 million lower than gold rings and nearly VND 18.9 million below SJC bullion. This highlights a substantial price gap between domestic and international markets, driven by the pattern where SJC prices rise faster and fall slower than global rates.
